Volunteers are invited to existing groups by their group leads.
If you see a volunteer group you believe covers an area you have expertise or interest in, you can contact the volunteer group lead and ask them to consider you for inclusion into their group.
If you want to volunteer by contribution in a way that you believe no existing volunteer group covers, you can apply to create a new volunteer group by contacting any existing volunteer group and asking them to help assist you in the process.
